Great campground but hard to reserve a site! I had to book my weekend months in advance, the sites fill up quick. I imagine it's because of the low price. We get a lot of snow birds booking up the campgrounds.
Everyone says to stay in the beach campground because the sites are just walking distance from the beach. I agree the convenience is a plus however although you get a good breeze from the ocean these sites lack shade.
I prefer the river side campground. The sites are huge, probably the biggest I have seen. They could have easily doubled the sites if they wanted to making some into 2. Plenty of shade, your nestled under there canopy of the live oaks. It's walking distance from the river beach. The beach and scenery are beautiful. There's a fishing pier for anglers. You can't swim at this beach because of the river current but it's a nice place to lay out.
The bathroom facilities are top notch. Probably the cleanest and nicest I've seen. My site didn't have a sewage hook up but I had no problem showering in there bathroom facility.
Things to do: there are biking trails through out the park, the fort at the North end, lots of wild life to see, and if swimming in the ocean isn't your thing there is a pool across from the park that's open year round.
If you can get a reservation here, I highly recommend it.

We were on a bucket list trip for a family member with cancer. He has since passed. This place was absolutely amazing. They didn't have a spot for us but they got creative and made one. We will always remember that kindness. ❤ The park was beautiful. The lake on one side and ocean on the other was just perfect. Someday, when I can afford the trip, I'll bring my kids so they can experience it too. Thank you so much for the memory.

Very good place to camp or visit. Campgrounds are clean..sites are spacious. Bathhouses are clean and well kept. Great beach and river access. Magnificent sunrises and sunsets. Lots of history and nature to explore. The only negative is folks who think they don't have to follow any rules and don't have any respect for anything or anyone...

We love this campground! The hosts do an amazing job and the bathrooms are sparkling clean. I think most sites are level (22 and 53 are ones we had and they are). We enjoy walking along the river to the jetty and the ocean. Also, it's fun to watch the boats and larger ships. A few notes: this campground is not within quick walking distance of a swimming beach, there are bugs including tiny "no-see-ems" so bring your spray, the sites are basically dirt so make sure to have a doormat.
Despite these few items, this is still 5-stars for us and we've been to about 30 campgrounds over the last year. We'll definitely be back!

Beautiful campground! Fort was awesome! Gift shop was great. If you have little ones bring a golf cart or a vehicle if you stay on the river side, it is quite a ways to the beach on foot, we came in a class c so it was not practical to pack up and drive to the beach daily. Also beware the ocean is a thief! Stole our sunglasses, best swim mask and goggles! Bring bug spray!

Our new Florida State favorite! Wildlife and privacy abound. We saw deer, armadillo, gopher tortoises, osprey etc. Very generous well spaced cozy campsites tucked beneath old oak canopies. Even on windy weekends your campsite is well protected from anything more than a slight comfortable breeze. The bath house is THE gold standard for State Park facilities. New clean climate controlled and spacious. No cramped little showers here! Washer and dryer present for those needing such amenities.

Wonderful place to camp with friendly staff and AMAZING views!! Also just a few steps from the water. Bathrooms are the CLEANEST bathrooms I’ve ever encountered at a state park! A +++ Be sure to reserve the “premiere spot” for the best view!’ See pictures… Campsite #40
