Excellence at its highest level.
I had a long and complex patella stabilisation procedure in March this year so I’m 3.5 months post but wow my knee has never felt so stable.
The entire process from pre-surgery, the surgery itself and all the post-surgery and rehab has been beyond exceptional.
Dr Gallaghers warmth and support throughout this entire process has made what was a very painful procedure so much easier and I am so thankful that I have him as my knee surgeon.
Sue the practice manger and Jess the nurse have gone above and beyond to accomodate for me and have always been so kind and helpful.
I would truly recommend Dr Gallagher and his team at the Queensland Knee Surgery Clinic for any knee related issues 😊
Thank you so much!!
So, I didn’t exactly give you ‘a walk in the park’ but I knew I was under the best of care with the results speaking for themselves.
Thank- you seems such a small thing to say when I’m now walking with such joy and pain free. I highly recommend Dr Gallagher and his team for all your knee problems.
Prior to the surgery I had been experiencing knee pain and limited range of motion in both knees, which had gotten steadily worse over six years. The cartilage was worn out on the inside of my knees, meaning I walked like a limping cowboy, bow-legged and unconsciously swaying from side to side. Walking and even standing had become very difficult and when I had to walk even short distances, the pain was terrible. My cowboy gait put pressure on my ankles and hips which also hurt.
It's five months since Dr Gallagher completed my double knee replacement surgery and I’ve just returned from a trip to Hawaii with my partner. My new knees have given us both a new lease on life and the opportunity to experience things we never thought we’d be able to experience together again. By way of example, we visited Pearl Harbor – a very moving experience. The day involved taking over 14,000 steps, climbing 20 flights of stairs, and climbing in and out of submarine and ship compartments. At the end of the day I still had a spring in my step. I was still walking smoothly, without a limp. My knees, ankles and hips didn’t hurt. That would have been unthinkable and probably impossible six months ago.
My legs are now straight and my knees are lined up under my hips with a full range of motion from completely straight to being bent at 140 degrees with no pain.
In terms of what made the operation such a success, apparently there are about 50 things that a surgeon needs to get right in order to achieve a successful knee replacement. I saw first hand how Dr Gallagher and the team control many of those factors. I was incredibly impressed with the care and attention to detail that went into every step of the process from the scans and initial assessments, through to the operation itself, the aftercare, the physio and the follow up. By way of example, Dr Gallagher is incredibly vigilant about eliminating any potential source of infection – which can be complication of knee surgery - even to the extent of having the surgical team operate in fully contained ‘space suits’ in a positively pressured, filtered air environment. The wound is hand stitched below the skin to minimize scarring. In the four days I was in hospital after the surgery, Dr Gallagher dropped in to check on my progress twice a day. There were many, many other examples of this care and attention to detail throughout my experience.
I had the surgery Monday, was out of hospital by Friday lunchtime, and walking without crutches after ten days. I was back at work and riding my motorcycle after 6 weeks. Of course, nothing is free…even with private healthcare, there are still out of pocket expenses, and you have to be prepared to follow the pain management drug regime for a couple of months and be vigilant with ice and the physio exercises. To me, these were tiny sacrifices in return for such a better quality of life. What’s more, the team the whole process as easy and streamlined as possible, right down to organizing back-to-back appointments for scans, consultations and physio. Everything is organized like clockwork. What’s more, Dr Gallagher and the whole team are really friendly good-humored people to deal with.
For anyone facing knee issues I can wholeheartedly recommend Dr Gallagher and his team…and if you have the choice…the sooner the better!
