WARNING: THESE AIRCRAFT WILL SPOIL YOU!!!
-seriously. Avionics are very user friendly and super cool. If you have any flying friends who are stuck in old conventional "steam" gauge aircraft, they will oogle and drool at your dynon EFIS or G1000nxi
Rental system is easy to operate through Flight Schedule Pro. just check the availability on the master schedule then fill out the form (I do this from my phone) and you're good to go. Any issues and Bryan Miles will be more than happy to assist you if you call the main line.
My suggestion is try to make your reservations at least a week in advance and to call to double check availability if you're taking something during prime time (usually fri-sat 9-5). If you're a frequent night flyer like me there are always a plethora of planes available.
Discovery Flights - super cool way to either just spend an afternoon or gauge your interest in flying. Typically the route is out to the east and over Ray Hubbard or Lavon, sometimes out to the north over Lake Lewisville (flying over water makes for good pics). Once you're up in the air your instructor will let you take the controls and get a feel for the aircraft. Depending on how comfortable you are (and how strong your stomach is) the instructor might show you some steep turns or stalls, but make sure you ask if you want to do this!
Even if you're not doing a tour flight you get great views of downtown Dallas every time flying in and out of Addison. I fly for the views and there is no better view than under the canopy of a Sport Cruiser.
Flight Training - Lots of stuff here I think people are typically questioning when considering flight training so I'm going to attempt to break it down.
1. Airspace - I hear a lot of people concerned about operating in such a complex airspace flying in and around DFW and here are my thoughts as someone who did their training out of Addison:
It will make you a better pilot.
The number one thing that keeps people from soloing (and therefore getting their license) doesn't have anything to do with their ability to actually fly, but their RADIO COMMUNICATION! Flying in and out of Addison and talking to approach will hone your skills at talking on the radios. I have flown with 1000+ hour pilots that aren't as comfortable flying in and out of KADS as 50 hour pilots who train there are!
The experience you gain flying in and out of this airspace will really prepare you for any situation.
2. Cost - Flight training is expensive, there's no way around that, but the last thing you need is someone using you for your flight hours!
I know most of the flight instructors both personally and professionally that work for thrust flight and I have never seen or heard any of them 'milk' their students for hours like you see at some of the bigger flight schools. Definitely cannot say that for every flight school I've been to or seen.
Remember, you get what you pay for, so be weary of any flight school or aircraft you're renting for too cheap and make sure they have had all the required inspections done!
3. Safety - I would take a nap flying with any of the Thrust Flight team at the controls. That should say all that is needed, but to add on: Thrust flight is one of the few flight schools that has in-house maintenance located on the field (and good maintenance too) and it is at your disposal. Have a question about something you see on preflight or even just clarification on understanding something? The Mx team is very knowledgeable and super friendly. Just ask!!
This school has the potential to take anyone from zero time through every commercial rating and flight instructor rating. That's a big deal.
Everyone is very friendly and helpful, so bottom line:
Definitely recommend Thrust Flight.
I would definitely recommend Thrust Flight School to anyone looking for pilot training!
