We traveled up the mountain road from the Coalton area and came out in Beverly. There are a few signs indicating historic Civil War events that took place here. It's mostly a drive and pull over type experience with few marked trails. Park and explore the Hart house location, especially the barn foundation across the road. The large boulders bear tributes to fallen soldiers carved in by their comrades that are still visible. Nice day trip if you're in the area.

Ice has melted on roads. Cold and breezy earlier. Drizzling now with some fog on top of the mountain..

Love it out this way but extremely sad they put a gate on the old through road and only give the key to Rich mtn hunting club. After all these years the community used this through rd this has happened very cruel to anyone that try's to enjoy the beauty of Randolph County. Also a huge loss of money for the community with tourists. I hope something happens and the gate is made to be taken down. The county needs to reclaim the rd and open it back up for the good people of Randolph County and get rid of the selfish hunting club on the passage rights

Great place to explore. It broke the helper motor of my electric bicycle (too much uphill), but paid off the pedaling. (Extraordinary exercise, challenging)

Nice place with a lot of potential. Several plaques describing battle but hardly any preservation or restoration. Kept up very nicely and is very peaceful. Camp Garnett is on east side of mountain, not much there but part of the history. Some brush clearing and a little effort to get the area restored to what it was during those times, would help with visualization of the battle.

West Virginia .. the whole state is a fantastic time capsule Crouch down behind the rocks, and imagine the Union troops pushing uphill through the dense forest, closing in on your location. It is worth your time to visit if you're in Elkins.

Be sure you check in at the Beverly Heritage Center before going up to the battlefield for more information.
The monuments/informational kiosks at the top of the mountain weren’t what we were expecting.
It’s still a cool piece of local history.
