They listen when I ask questions and don’t hide stuff from me and I’m glad of that

My grandmother was scheduled for a CT scan of her colon with contrast. Her appointment was scheduled for 2:30 PM but they told us to arrive at 12:30 because they needed to do blood work prior to her scan. We arrived at 12 and were finished with blood work by 12:15. We were then taken to the radiology waiting room and told that someone would be out to get us once they had the results. At 2:45 no one had come to get us and several other patients had come and gone. I spoke to the woman at the desk and said that our appointment was at 2:30 and I just wanted to check and see if we needed to do anything. She told me that they were probably still waiting on labs and someone would call us when they were ready. She told me we'd just have to wait. At 3:30 someone from the CT department comes out and asks if we have an appointment and what we are waiting to have done. She kindly took our papers and went to go investigate. It turns out that someone dropped the ball and never ordered the CT scan. The CT techs had no idea she was even there for her appointment. She immediately came out to inform us and ask what we wanted to do because the order from the Dr required her to drink IV contrast which meant waiting for an hour and a half before the scan. I had already taken off work so I said I'd rather we just go ahead and get the scan done today rather than me needing to take another day to bring her for another scan. She was very kind and apologetic even though the situation wasn't at all her fault. Unfortunately this can't make up for the negligence that left us waiting for several hours. What's frustrating is that all this could have been avoided if the woman at the front desk had actually checked her computer when we asked at 2:45. The techs even said that if we were waiting for longer than 15 minutes we should have asked the person at the desk. I understand that people are busy but when you've seen the same people in the waiting room for two hours you would think that they'd be more willing to check on things for you.

I broke my leg on Saturday and was very hesitant to come to Davis Memorial due to word of mouth reputation this hospital has but I didn't have a choice. I was very pleasantly surprised by the staff's genuine concern for my well being. When I was brought in I was seen right away by doctors and nurses. I was in severe pain and my nurse Abby was hands down the nicest nurse I've ever had. She made my bad situation much more tolerable. Dr. Sear's was also very kind and I felt like he was genuinly concerned about me. He did a fantastic job relocating my broken bones. I hope to never go back to this hospital but not because of the service that was provided, they were phenominal!

I have a medical condition similar to Cystic Fibrosis called Kartagener Syndrome. My organs are also on the opposite side of where they should be. I take my bodily functions very seriously and do a lot of research because I haven’t had great medical care in WV.

I started having severe abdominal pain (again) in July. I called Davis because they handled my gallbladder removal well. My appointment was scheduled in to see a surgeon about my symptoms. Symptoms I should’ve gone to the ER with but thought the doctors in Urology would be competent enough to handle. The surgeon was extremely nice and listened well and got my appointment for an ultrasound scheduled quickly. I was contacted via phone and told I had 7mm and 8mm kidney stones and it would require surgery to remove them. I was told someone would call to schedule. I never could get consistent communication with them.

Fast forward to the day of my “surgery” I see a doctor who has no clue that I’m supposed to have surgery. He tells me without a CT scan that he wouldn’t do anything.

CT scan finally got completed at St. Joseph and I went back to Davis for my “official results” stating I had passed a stone and the other one was so small it wasn’t of concern. I was told that if I were 70 years of age he would’ve just told me to go home and call with complications. Im not even certain I had kidney stones.

I provided a two column list of my symptoms that he didn’t bother reading. I have wasted so much time and money trying to figure out what is wrong with me, only to be in the same boat I started because now I have to start over with a new hospital. My symptoms are only worse.

I contacted a patient advocate (Arvela J. Koerner) who was only focused on the hospital reading my results over the phone and my fiancé missing work because of a nonexistent surgery, and never returned my call.

I do not recommend this hospital to anyone. They don’t listen or care to look into anything, nor can they communicate.

I'm amazed at how caring, compassionate and kind all of the staff members I've came in contact with here are. I had to have an ambulance called Christmas night because I couldn't breathe (turns out it was COVID) anyway Dr Jesus and every single one of the nurses and staff were incredible. I was in agony with a high fever and felt I was being snobby or something, like I wasn't grateful or friendly enough I was just in so much pain( I hope they see this.) They checked on me constantly, brought me water, blankets, asked if I needed anything told me they were so sorry I felt so bad. I have 5 kids and have had to visit here a few times and they are always overly kind. I really appreciate every single one of you. Even the office ladies up front are always extremely sweet. Thank y'all for always treating my kids and I with so much care, being up here with no family and friends is hard but you make the hard days seem much easier by treating us with so much compassion. I appreciate all of y'all greatly.

Honestly it depends on the doctor you get on the level of care and bedside manner you will receive. I've had wonderful doctors and I've had one I don't need to be doctors. Unfortunately that goes the same with the nurses. I love Stonewall Jackson Hospital a1000 times more than DMC. Direct care which is located near Walmart has several wonderful doctor. Madonna Bonner being one of them. Bedside manner is wonderful. Idk where Frank Cooda is anymore but he is hands down the best doctor I've ever seen.

My husband broke and dislocated his ankle at a nearby fishing resort and had to be transported to Davis Medical Center. He had nothing but good to say of the EMTs who came to get him at Elk Springs and transport him to the hospital. When I arrived from Pennsylvania the next day, I was treated with courtesy. My husband’s care was excellent. Special thanks to Tracy and the several doctors who saw and took care of him when he most needed it. And best of all, the meals were delicious.
