I drove through this area last fall. Beautiful scenery. Nice cabins you can rent. Good picnic areas.

We LOVED our cabin trip in Greenbrier State Forest! Only 12-15 minutes from Lewisburg's Historic District, Greenbrier State Forest sports several miles of gorgeous hiking trails, abundant diversity of wild plants, a swimming pool, archery range, and QUIET. The space between cabins means you don't really hear your neighbours, and there are quiet hours starting at 10pm.
There are no street lights for the road in the cabin area, so when the sun sets, it gets DARK! You will definitely want to pack a flashlight or headlamp if you plan on doing any evening walks or hikes. You may also want to bring Tecnu and/or Jewelweed soap as there are several trails where Poison Ivy is under the ferns and other plants.
The cabin we stayed in had AMAZING AC and heat, which was nice to come back to after a full day of hiking, and the fireplace puts out a good deal of heat! Beds are very comfortable! Great hot water shower. There isn't much counter space in the kitchen, but the table in the dining area is generously sized and makes a great prep area! We are definitely looking forward to our next stay in this awesome forest!

Cabin is super cute. Looks nice upon entry, but bedding was gross. Hair and dirt all over the sheets, pillow cases and bedspread. Went to Walmart to buy our own bedding. Comforter, sheets and pillowcases, something inexpensive to get me to get into the bed. There was no way I'd sleep in it otherwise. Considering all of the hair and dirt, I don't think any of their bedding was washed. I'm not fru fru and expect luxury. Especially when we stay in a cabin, But I'd expect clean bedding at least. There is no light on the back porch (why not????) so we couldn't sit out there in pitch black. So black that you could not see your hand in front of you. The kitchen was nice, but definitely bring your own paper towels and pump soap as there is not any in the kitchen. Just a sample bottle of dish soap. The fridge was clean and kitchen had the basics. The bathroom appeared clean and the shower had awesome water pressure and there were plenty of towels for our stay. Bathroom was spacious as well. Last year we stayed at the Lost River State Park and it was a bit cleaner overall, on the flip side, we found GBSP a bit quieter with much less people. Seemed a few cabins were empty when we were there, like the one next to ours.

We liked the large dining table inside the cabin, and the room had good seating. The interior of the cabin was spacious and we appreciated that.

We were very disappointed how the rails were wobbly on the deck, as well as areas on the back stairs, too. It was not safe. Finally, just as a heads up, at the time that i write this review, there is no AC in the bedroom. It was a sauna when we walked in there. Put main room AC (awesome AC, BTW) on blast and went out to buy a fan. It might not matter to many, but if you are like me, and can't sleep in the heat, I suggest bringing a fan for the bedroom. We placed it so the air from the AC would circulate the air in the bedroom area then at night moved the fan into the bedroom. Still was way too hot, so we ended up sleeping on the futon in the living area. I hate to knock this place, but I think the disappointments (for us) should be said in my review. I do want to say that the lady in the office/gift shop was very nice as were the ground crew.

The park itself was ok. We enjoyed our walks.

Outside of GBSP, check out Historic Lewisburg 10 mins away. great town to walk around and eat. Reminds me of Historic Downtown Leesburg, VA

Wow! We stayed in a cabin for 3 days and it was amazing!! Very, very clean, a bag of firewood, matches and fire starter for each night stay😃 Beautiful grounds and quiet. We will be back for sure and more than once. Thank you for a perfect trip!

The campground is not for Class A or high profile or medium trailers. They don't mention it anywhere on their site but there is a one lane arched tunnel leading up to the campground. You are forced to be up along the side of the tunnel so your awning is about 2 inches from being involuntarily removed. Then when you wind your way several miles up to the gravel path entrance there are very nice rustic sites with electricity nestled into the forest. Problem is the trees make it near impossible to manoeuver around. We survived getting up and down but didn't ultimately stay the night as we didn't want to go any further than site 2 which was a few yards off the road. . We stayed at the fairgrounds instead.

Lots of little hikes from the cabin and a few with a drive. The entire area in general is gorgeous. The campground is nice and the cabins are surprisingly amazing (minus the lack of heat). There’s a pool which seems to be the local hang out spot. Each site has a fire ring and grill. The ranger was super nice. But beware, Bigfoot is the new WV fad lol. There is also television and wifi in the cabins for those of you who have kids attached to their phones 😂

Wow!!! I was recommended to go here for hiking by my AirBnB host. I have to say that I was so happy I took her advice. Jenny in the rangers office recommend “Kates Loop” and again, couldn’t be more happy about taking the recommendation. Hikers in good health and ready for a day of hiking should look at this one!! I went up, through and all around the mountain. As a solitary hiker, I was pleased that there was cell signal throughout the whole of my hike so that my family watching my location through Google maps were able to keep an eye on me. You should definitely be supplied with snacks and water and be prepared to take breaks. I began the loop at about 10:30 and finished up right around 7, but this was me by myself keeping a good pace. NATURE CONSERVATIONISTS! Any conservationists hiking the service road - please bring bags for trash. On the main trails I was happy to see they were clear of trash but all on the service road I found garbage to collect. There are picnic areas where trash can be deposited towards the end of the loop. THANK YOU TO THE RANGERS and everyone working to keep this forest preserved, I feel so refreshed and rejuvenated after my day here!!

We got helpful advice from the staff at the gift shop. The GSF is great place to hike! All the paths are wide and well marked.
