It starts with my agility instructor Elizabeth Armstrong whom I have been with for many years . If you want agility foundations you won’t get any better than Elizabeth , she will teach you at a pace that makes it fun for you and your dog.
If you are looking for a workshop or more advanced handling and Skills classes she does it all! Her patience with me has been SO appreciated through the years .
Then there is Nosework , we have two dogs in Julie Morton’s class and couldn’t be happier ,
Had no idea this sport would be so much Fun, our dogs can’t wait to go to class and either can we!
Agility Trials are run so efficiently and smooth ,
You can’t ask for a better place to compete and have fun with your dog .
You know the saying “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”? Paula at AFF takes the lifetime approach to training your dog. The focus is really on fundamentals and how to communicate with and build a solid relationship with your dog. It may be slower and less flashy than other places that can show your dog how to do 10 party tricks in a few weeks. Instead Paula focuses a lot on teaching the human how to teach their dog and how the dog can become a good learner.
The other thing that I appreciate about Paula and AFF is her vast experience and ability to personalize the training based on what you and your dog are showing. In group classes even though everyone is doing the same exercise the instructors will tailor the exercise or advise for your dog if needed. My puppy was extra mischievous and independent, the instructors could quickly see what made my dog tick and her weaknesses and gave specific tips for working with her. There are other places where instructors are pretty much teaching from a handbook with no consideration for the dog in front of them and if it’s not working they have no other suggestions than what’s outlined in the handbook. It can be a frustrating experience if your dog isn’t the typical food loving golden/lab. We’ve since moved away but over a yr later I think what we learned at AFF has been the most effective dog training
