Cat House

The two cats on the roof look like they are alive :) The building itself is also nice. After seeing this attraction you understand why cats (in addiition to roosters) are the symbols of Old Riga.

The most famous Art Nouveau building in the city. It isn’t absolutely difficult to recognize it: on each of the dark spiers of the roof is positioned the funny bronze statue of a cat precariously balanced on the tip of the spire. According to legend, the building was built by a wealthy merchant, who had asked to be allowed to enter the city's Major Chamber of Commerce. Consent denied, he had two cats placed on the roof of the house ... with the rear facing right in the direction of the seat of the same!

I have a picture of this house from my every visit to Riga. One thing for sure: they stick to the story of why and how those cats ended up on the rooftops :)

A nice symbol of Riga that is not well maintained. It looks abandoned and the pub downstairs ruins the charm of an otherwise beautiful piece of history

This building is styled as medieval architecture with some elements of Art Nouveau.

The house is situated in the centre of Vecriga and all guides tell the story about these statues.

The story behind this unique architecture tells of its Latvian owner who was denied membership in the powerful Great Guild and to show his displeasure, he built two cat sculptures on his roof with their backsides facing the Guild and their tails straight up to finish the insult.

I don’t even know what this place is about, but I’m simple man, when I see a cat, I will give 5- star review 🤷‍♂️
Around the Riga there was a lot of souvenir shops that sold different kind of items about these cats, so you should go and see them by yourself. People seems to like it 😁

Fun? Yes but not much to see really, the house itself is old and its a lot more buildings that have much more amazing look
