We were suprised to come across a small Wildlife exhibit, they have a wild boar, a couple bob cats, a owl, redtail hawk and 2 sibling bears. The bears werw rescued 22 years ago after the mother bear was struck by a vehicle. The snakes are seasonal and none were available at the time. Admission was a extremely modest $2 per person.
The outdoor pool was very clean and the slide and mushroom were great.
The rooms in the lodge are a great value and the entire park is beautiful.
I found the trails to be in bad shape. All of them had some obstruction that needed to be cleared. But, they were also hard to get on because the trailhead signage was poor or there was no place to park to get on the trail. Finally, the map needs to be updated because it references several closed trails. I also don't understand why those trails were closed because at least one was easier to hike than an open trail.
Perhaps indicative of how the trails are not important, after spending 8 hours hiking over a weekend, I never saw another person on the trails. This provides excellent deer encounters.
The outdoor fire pit is really wonderful on cool autumn nights, as is star searching through high powered telescopes!
Elk tours are now offered on specifics dates in September and October with reservations. We are looking forward to our next visit!!!
