Mountain Trail Rides Horseback Riding & More

Update: the owner contacted me and made things right so I’m giving them another star for good customer service.

Beware - we didn’t get what we paid for!
Our four teenage kids and I were really disappointed with the overall experience. This was their second time going horseback riding and they had enthusiastically chosen the 1.5 hour ride. I called and left a message Sunday night and received a return call on Monday morning offering a ride at 2:30 that day. The horses, trails and view were really good: no complaints there. However, we left for the trail ride a little early at 2:20 but ended early at 3:30. We should have ended at 4:00! It cost us $10 per person to add the extra half hour above the hour ride they offer. When you multiply that by 5 of us, we were shorted about $50! When I mentioned the time to the lady leading the ride, she snipped at me that she may have shorted us 15 minutes and gave a sarcastic “sorry”. The kids and I were so upset that we didn’t get to finish the whole ride e paid for.
Yesterday, we talked to a very nice lady from Yokum’s Riding Stables near the peak of our hike at Seneca Rocks. She was super friendly and informative. She let the kids pet the horses and answered a ton of questions. The views there were stunning. I would recommend giving them a try instead.

My 2 daughters and I went on a 1 hour trail ride June 24. Despite being short staffed it was an amazing ride. I have horse experience and usually am super nervous for my kids. Travis took amazing care of my 9 year old. Tack was well fitted and the horses had GREAT attitudes. I will definitely come back and I highly recommend.

This was our family’s very first horseback riding experience, and it was even greater than we had hoped or imagined! The people are so knowledgeable, patient, and kind - super down to earth. Kelsey was our guide, and she was fantastic! The ride was absolutely beautiful, through fields and gorgeous woods. We definitely recommend this place and can’t wait to go back!

I had a wonderful time, no complaints. I had the smartest horse, her name was Summer. The horses are very gentle, and they love the trails. The new owners are wonderful, and informative....just follow instructions and you'll be fine. Wonderful experience, its been years since I've been on a horse. I would love to go every week.

I didn't personally ride but my wife, teenage girls, college age girl and her boyfriend all rode. They loved it, they want to go back. Very well done and very enjoyable for riders of all abilities (we have been around the US riding, Wyoming to Tennessee to West Virginia. Highly recommend the experience.

Mountain Trail was such a wonderful place. The staff are very friendly. I love the fact that they have a petting Zoo, and that you can pet the horses as well!

I had a wonderful experience at Mountain Trail Rides. The horses were very well trained, the riding equipment was in great shape, and the staff were attentive. Our cowgirl Holly was very knowledgeable about the horses, the trail, and the area. The 1.5 hour ride provided beautiful views of the Canaan Valley and a great opportunity to connect with other travelers and kindred spirits.

Took my 10 yo daughter for a half hour horseback ride. Everyone that we encountered during our time there was kind and courteous. My daughter enjoyed the ride. We will go back!
