The Cass Depot is a quaint train station deep in the mountains of West Virginia. Makes for a quick stop for some photos as the valley surrounding it is beautiful!

Pros:
The staff and train crew are super friendly and very informative!! Thank you Billy for being such a great guy! You made the trip so much more enjoyable!!!
The train ride to the top of bald knob with its breath-taking views will be permanently etched I'm my brain forever! Thank you all for such a splendid adventure!!
The train departures were right on schedule and I commend the crew for maintaining it to the minute!

Cons:
The spot, ash from burnt coal gets on everything, clothes, bags, etc.
The whistle blowing is excessive and is difficult on elderly with hearing issues such as ringing in the ears or hard of hearing is made worse.
The coal burning engine creates a LOT of big black plumes of smoke which you can't avoid breathing, and unfortunately it is a carcinogen. So you might want to bring a mask.

Wow, we went to Cass and rode the Cass Scenic Railroad and absolutely loved it!!! Halfway up the mountain the train stopped at Whitacker. It was an old mining community and everyone got to look around while they serviced the engine. There were buildings, restrooms, a place to eat, and some logging equipment. It was pretty cool to see and experience. I would say that if you like trains, give it a chance. The engine is run by West Virginia coal and is super loud, but really cool.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes trains and beautiful scenery. Already planning a return trip. Get there early enough to have breakfast at the depot. The food and service was great.
