Very disrespectful.....one of the officers tried to pin a ticket on me for a meter that was out of time; however, I paid my fee on the meter via a parking meter app, and he wrote the ticket three minutes after my session started....hint hint. When I tried to explain this, the officer and clerk at the front desk were adamant that I made a mistake when I held the proof right in front of them on my phone, but they ignored me and debated with me about it for the better part of five minutes. I eventually got so frustrated that I exploded and screamed. Then they decided it was time to check the system, and they found that the officer was wrong, so the ticket was removed. They were VERY disrespectful, and I must say I can definitely see why people hate police so much after having to deal with the ones in this building. They treat you like a convict, and it's just parking tickets.....Really???

Was travelling here from out of town on business. Went into Betty's for a great breakfast. Came out 45 minutes later to a parking ticket. Was one of two cars parked on the entire street. Missed the 24hr pay window, the parking ticket now costs more than the breakfast. I wouldn't come back to this town if someone paid me. I'll also look forward to recommending everyone to stay in a different town and to avoid Shepherdstown all together. How about a warning next time...

!!!!!WARNING!!!!! These police are here to charge and collect for the town of shepherdstown. They will find any way to fine you, by parking ticket, or by a B.S reason to pull you over. Use extreme caution in this town.

All we wanted to do was support the local business. We left not only with our food, but with a lovely parking ticket. Put in quarters people... dimes won't suffice. LOL

This is not about parking tickets, I understand that people get and give tickets. This is about the lady behind the counter. I called to inquire about my case. I could not imagine a more undesirable experience. I asked to speak to a specific officer and informed her that we were having local issues. The lady yelled at me saying she wouldn’t let me speak to anyone until I told her the problem. I didn’t want to tell her so I told her it was private. She said “I don’t care” and continued to yell at me. She then denied my specific officer request while making a snarky remark (even though we had already spoken to this specific officer who was already working on our case) and just like that, she hung up! This experience just furthered my thinking that the police don’t actually care about us. The clerk sure didn’t and I’m still trying to get help. What can we do?

I have visited several times in the last view years from Ohio. I love this little historical town. I feel quite safe & it has plenty of restaurants & shops. Thanks for keeping things nice & safe. I look forward to my next visit.

Here it is.. over ten years later and I still absolutely cannot stand this police department. Everything that happened when I was around 21-22 was unlawful. They took advantage of me being young! There is nothing on my record and absolutely no proof.. me and my bf were gullible and easily taken advantage of. As an adult I wish there were something I could do but there is not. If you have the joy of dealing with this police department good luck and play it smart!
