Hernando County Fine Arts Council

This was my first year volunteering for the annual Art in the Park presented by the Arts council at Tom Varn Park in Brooksville. What a great event!
Many meetings. Much planning. Hard work by the council members especially Jan Knowles and Paul Shaskan.
About 200 fine artists and crafters participate in the juried art show and exhibit their work in booths. The winners receive ribbons and substantial cash prizes.
I made sure to put myself on a budget before I showed up the first day and it was a good thing. I looked at every booth and even though it was hard to choose, I eventually chose wearable art: a hand dyed silk scarf by Jill.
There were many beautiful paintings, sculptures, pottery, wood crafts, jewelry...something for everyone. There were even gorgeous, reasonably priced orchids.
Musical entertainment included several youth organizations and the Hernando Symphony Orchestra. There were also a few contemporary bands.
Lots of food trucks and stands. Fresh ground coffee drinks and fresh squeezed lemonade.
I loved the emphasis on kids. There was a Student Art tent full of art created by children in our county schools. The Nature Coast Art League ran a juried art show for them with the winners receiving substantial cash prizes to encourage them to continue in their art.
Art in the Park takes place every year in March.

Our son attended two different art summer camps and had a great time! Kure and Beth are wonderful! The art teachers did a great job teaching our son new art skills. We are very happy that there are youth art programs like this and we appreciate the people that keep it going like Beth, Kure, and the art teachers. We look forward to enrolling him into future classes. ☺️
