I'd met Roy, an original Highwaymen painter when I found his gallery and studio tucked behind Tea and Chi and was fascinated by his use of color to create beauty and light. He's a quiet, humble man who welcomed me to visit any time.

That encounter, with the rich history of the Florida Highwaymen painters and their migrant beginnings, along with the divine artist talent they behold is what led me to this gallery. The beautiful paintings are visible through the windows and drew me in. Once I stepped in, I was welcomed and invited to take a look around. After I told him that I'd been to the other gallery, he jokingly referred to himself as more of a "dirt road painter." Not so.

These Florida Highwaymen painters and their galleries are Indian River County treasures. I will look for Ray's book because their story needs to be shared and I believe his words as well as their paintings could bring light to those dark corners of history.

An absolute treasure, full of local history and very informative. We loved our visit.
