The Pinkerton Low Bridge is 242' long over the Casselman River with views of the river in both directions. To the upstream you can catch a glance of trains on the CSX right-of-way going into, or coming out of, a massive cut in the neck of the Pinkerton Horn.
Prior to the cut was a tunnel built in the 1830's. With the advent of double-stack rail cars, the tunnel was too low and the RR decided to day-light, remove the tunnel by excavating a deep "V" shaped cut.
Beyond the Pinkerton Low Bridge is the Pinkerton Tunnel. It was a companion to the B&O tunnel, and at the closest point they were only 40' apart.
Upstream of the bridge is "Lunch Rock" an outcrop of stone often used by canoers/kayakers on their journey from Rockwood or Markleton to Fort Hill. The Pinkerton Horn is very similar to the "loop" at Ohiopyle with a series of rapids. However, floating the Casselman is usually only done in the spring when there is high water.
To get a feel for the drop of the river through the Pinkerton Horn loop, not the height of the Low Bridge above the water and compare that to the 100' height of the Pinkerton High Bridge on the other side of the tunnel.
