Meimei-an Teahouse

I love this place. Located in the hills above matsue, a beautiful garden marks the trail into history. We loved the sweets and matcha tea ceremony, served by a lovely woman. Stunning views. A little oasis.

It’s a small tea house. And the tea tasting is just so so. But the view outside the teahouse can see castle directly that’s a nice view.

A great place to learn about Fumai-ryu tea ceremonies and enjoy great matcha and wagashi while observing a traditional Japanese garden.

Bonus: stand on top of the circular stone at the head of the stairs to view Matsue castle without any modern buildings visible. The trees hide any hints that you're not in the Edo period.

Can consider going there for Japanese tea set if you have time

Partaking in a traditional tea ceremony experience at this historic site was surreal. The hostess was kind and attentive, and her hospitality helped circumvent the language barrier. The matcha was superb, and the wagashi both delicate and scrumptious.

A lovely little teahouse. Staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming.

Recommended for some tasty casual matcha and wagashi, as well as a stroll through the lovely little garden.

Had a cup of green tea in the teahouse. The hostess explained about the tea ceremony. Was very educational and interesting.
