Went to pay a ticket here on a Friday around 11 and there was literally not a soul there. No lights on even. Did I somehow misunderstand the hours on the door that said Open Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 9:00am-1:00pm?

For all those currently dealing with a matter before the courts in Okotoks, Airdrie, or other outlying areas around Calgary.

Your court houses are probably closed due to Covid restrictions. This makes it incredibly difficult to go to court on your date and defend yourself - especially traffic.

Notices have been posted with phone numbers - All of which won't do you any good so dont bother leaving your number. If you want duty council to assist in your matter, they currently do not offer same day assistance - you need to contact them 14 days before your scheduled court date (a rule that is not implied anywhere on the current traffic violation tickets or information no readily available to the layman.)

The only for you to move forward and not have a judgement occur in your absence is to email your plea - guilty or not guilty, and wait for a response as required. Again.... DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER AND LEAVE A MESSAGE, they will not return your call regardless.

Finally contact a traffic ticket specialist in Calgary. Don't bother trying to negotiate with the crown because as of Dec 2020 they won't allow you to reduce..... So hiring someone to do the work for you is in your best interest.

The other solution is to take a photo of the courthouse door, prove you were there and fight like hell against a system that made decisions about laws and abilities without provincial input.

Good luck.

What a gong show. Show up today to plead my case on a traffic tkt., Guy at the door asks for my name, finds me on the list, asks for ID and hands me an instruction sheet and tells me to proceed into the courtroom. Sat in the courtroom and then noted that the gentlemen at the front asked another person if they checked in. I then went up and gave him my name and was told I'm not required to be in court and to follow the instructions on the piece of paper. The paper is titled "Limited Traffic Court Operation" and provides similar instructions as to what is on the actual ticket, i.e. can plead not guilty, pay fine online, etc. What a waste of a trip.

Complete joke. Refunded my fine without any explanation and left it on record as unpaid for months without notifying me
